40K Chronicles: Deathwing Dreadnought Horatio Complete!

Used without permission.

Where oh where did the month of March go??? I was finally able to sit down and look at my blog and realized that it had been over a month since I last posted. As most of us usually encounter, Life has stepped in and taken over a lot of my time and has left with little left over to paint. My bro came down and visited a few weeks ago, I found out I was moving back across the country in a less than 2 months, had another in-law come visit, and then St. Patty’s day came and went… All of that (plus more stuff I haven’t mentioned) has left me with little time to do some modeling / painting. So this morning I found myself alone and decided to finish the Dreadnought that I began a few weeks ago. It was almost like it was taunting me each and every time I walked into my office and it sat there… half painted… So I set to work this morning and told myself that I wouldn’t stop until it’s been done.

Before I get into the actual painting of it, I want this post to also serve as an update to my 2012 Gaming Resolutions. As you’ve already discovered from the words above, I didn’t do much of anything in the month of March so it really set me back. It has actually been about 3 weeks since I last played a game as well… and that was a game of Warmachine. There are no upcoming tournaments so it has been really hard to get focused on one thing since I don’t have the tournament in place to keep me motivated to get my things painted. That said, I won’t be able to make Adepticon this year… even though I paid for it… I knew it was going to be a long shot and then when I thought there was a chance I was going to make it, I find out that I’m going back to Seattle in June. So I decided to start saving as much money as I can in order to get a house when I get back there… and spending $300 on a plane ticket to Chicago didn’t seem like the practical thing to do. So anyways, I’ll just have to check the several blogs of people that will attend next weekend and get and idea of how it went. Hopefully next year… Here’s the 2012 Gaming Resolutions list so far:

– Paint 50 points of Trollbloods (WarmaHordes – In Work)

– Paint 2,500 points of Orcs & Goblins (Warhammer Fantasy)

– Paint 2,000 points of Deathwing (Warhammer 40K – In Work)

– Attend Games Day 2012

– Attend at least 2 major Warhammer Tournaments

– Attend at least 3 local WarmaHordes Tournaments (maybe 1 major one…) (In Work this month and next)

Attend Adepticon (Won’t be able to make it… sigh…)

– Paint 35 points of Khador

Start a new Warhammer Fantasy army (Done!)

– Paint a 1500 point Salamanders Army

Anyways, I set to painting Horatio this morning and went with the standard Dreadnought look. Bone armour and DA Green arms with the red storm bolter, to match the rest of the army. This is another custom base that matches the rest of the army as well… I believe it’s shale or something like that. I do have a few more variants of the arms for Horatio but I’ll usually go with the default Assault Cannon & Power Fist, so that’s what you see here. Also sticking with the rest of the army, I painted the power fist blue… to make it stand out. Here’s Horatio:

Sorry for the delay in posts… but March was a busy month and I anticipate the next few months will be close to the same, though I’m going to try harder to paint when I can and post more. When I have to move back to Seattle, I’m going to ship my hobby things so that I don’t have to deal with the moving company handling them the way they do. When I moved here I had several things turn up broken, so I figure that I will spend the money and pack it myself so that I’ll have the peace of mind knowing that if it does break, it was my fault… So yea, I got a lot going on and I’m looking forward to the next several months, trying to get things back in order, and starting over in Seattle again, hopefully finding a good gaming group out there (I’ll be living in a different area than where I was last time)… So there it is so far, as always, thanks for checking out my blog!

Lastly, for those of you keeping track, here’s what’s left to paint to complete my Deathwing army:

– Deathwing Grandmaster Belial

– Chaplain Cassius

– 5 man Terminator Squad (Infernus)

– 5 man Terminator Squad (Barrage)

– 5 man Terminator Squad (Nike)

– 5 man Terminator Squad (Nixxus)

1 Dreadnought (Horatio)

– Land Raider Crusader (Next!)

2012 Gaming Resolutions Update #2: Deathwing Grandmaster Belial Complete.

Used without permission.

Finally got around to finishing up the leader of the Deathwing army, Belial. I had recently done some work on him to give him interchangeable arms so that he can wield either a set of lightning claws or a Thunder Hammer and a Storm Shield. Well, I have been pretty busy with friends in town and also figuring out what to do with my living situation, as well as been pretty immersed on my Orcs & Goblins army and getting in a few games with them.

So I decided to do an update to my 2012 Gaming Resolutions as well as an update on the current project: The Deathwing. I must admit that February was a pretty slow month but it only looks that way on the blog… I’ve been doing a ton of things behind the scenes with some other armies of mine like the Beastmen, Daemons of Chaos, and the O&G’s. I’ve also been touching up on my Warmachine / Hordes Mercenaries army and have even started getting things together with the Trollbloods. So while I haven’t posted much on here, rest assured that a lot is going on behind the scenes. Anyways, here’s the ongoing list of things I plan on doing for 2012:

– Paint 50 points of Trollbloods (WarmaHordes)

– Paint 2,500 points of Orcs & Goblins (Warhammer Fantasy)

– Paint 2,000 points of Deathwing (Warhammer 40K – In Work)

– Attend Games Day 2012

– Attend at least 2 major Warhammer Tournaments

– Attend at least 3 local WarmaHordes Tournaments (maybe 1 major one…) (In Work this month and next)

– Attend Adepticon (In my sights!)

– Paint 35 points of Khador

– Start a new Warhammer Fantasy army (Got the Daemons of Chaos In Work!)

– ***New*** Paint a 1500 point Salamanders Army

To knock out a point on the “Attend at least 3 local tournaments” bullet, I’ll hopefully be attending a local tournament held at the Game Vault in Fredericksburg, VA later this month (24th) for a 40k tournament. That will also kick my butt in gear and get these damn Deathwing done… which brings to another bullet, “Paint 2000 points of Deathwing”… so it’ll be like killing 2 birds with one stone if I can pull these off this month. The quest for Adepticon is in sights, and, although I haven’t booked my ticket just yet, I’m still planning on making it at this point, so I’ll keep you in the loop on that one. There are also some local tournaments for WarmaHordes both this month and next, so getting that knocked out shouldn’t be too difficult. So I feel like my 2012 progress is going pretty well, although slow in some areas. I’m hoping March will be a better month – painting-wise.

As for something that I actually did finish, I give you Belial, the Grandmaster of the Deathwing. I finished him off last night and thought I’d snap a couple pics so you can see the finished product. I didn’t finish the TH/SS yet but that won’t take long at all, and I plan on painting it at the same time I’m painting the next squad, which is ready to go tonight. I tried to spell out “Belial” and “Deathwing” on his leg and shoulder litanies… and they turned out ok, but not great. I’m pleased with them though. I’d like to add a cape or something later on to make him stand out a little bit more, he seems to blend right into the rest of the army and I feel like he should be standing out in some way since he’s the leader… I’ll think of something.

Anyways, here’s a pic of Belial:

And the shoulder pad that says “Deathwing”:

And a last shot of Belial:

Thanks for checking  up and let me know what you think. More to come soon!

2012 Gaming Resolutions Update #1.

Used without permission.

This is going to be the first of several New Year’s Resolution updates that I’ll post throughout the year… If you read my earlier post about my Gaming Resolutions for 2012 then you’ll remember that I said I’d give updates about once a month to let everybody know where I currently stand on the Resolutions I’ve made. So going forward, the plan is to update everybody on the 1st of the month (or as close as I can get to it…) And now that we’ve made it through the first year of 2012, it’s time for an update…

I gotta admit that it hasn’t started out so well… I’ve only had the opportunity to paint a few things so far, although I have done a couple of other things that were not on the list to begin with (I created a lightbox to help me with better quality photos and got sidetracked and began working on my Salamanders army). Here’s the ongoing list of things I plan on doing for 2012:

– Paint 50 points of Trollbloods (WarmaHordes)

– Paint 2,500 points of Orcs & Goblins (Warhammer Fantasy)

– Paint 2,000 points of Deathwing (Warhammer 40K)

– Attend Games Day 2012

– Attend at least 2 major Warhammer Tournaments

– Attend at least 3 local WarmaHordes Tournaments (maybe 1 major one…)

– Attend Adepticon (This may be a little tougher than I anticipate… we’ll see…)

– Paint 35 points of Khador

– Start a new Warhammer Fantasy army

– ***New*** Paint a 1500 point Salamanders Army

Well so far, I’ve begun working on my Trollbloods and was able to knock out the Dire Troll Mauler that I have for my 50 point force. That’s all the work I’ve done on them… However, there is a tournament coming up in March (see right sidebar) that I need to have it all done for so I’m not too concerned about this one. I also began working on my Deathwing and have only officially painted 1 (yes… 1…) model. I have, however, started on the first squad and am about 50% done… about the same for the Chaplain of the army. There’s also a tournament coming up for them that I plan on attending so that has to be knocked out soon as well. Be expecting a lot of updates in the next few weeks concerning the Deathwing. So if I’m able to knock out both the Deathwing and attend both of these local tournaments then I will have already accomplished a good portion of what I set out to do… Here’s to hoping!

The lone Deathwing Terminator I've painted so far...

So after looking through my list of things to do I don’t feel too bad… I’ve been able to do some things… but now that tournaments are looming I really have to re-focus my attention and get things knocked out. Anyways, I’m on my way to keeping in line with what I want to accomplish for 2012 and the journey begins with a single step, right? Well I believe I’ve at least taken the first step! Stay tuned for more updates coming soon. Thanks for checking!
